Kilimanjaro Expedition with World-Renowned Explorer Richard C. Wiese

March 2008

The ascent on Mount Kilimanjaro, led by Richard C. Wiese, was a fundraising expedition to benefit the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Youth Corps program.

Richard C. Wiese, Long Island native and former President of The Explorers Club, has spoken before the United Nations and he has appeared on CNN, Dateline NBC, ABC News and the BBC. His Mt. Kilimanjaro climbs have been featured in the New York Times, Travel and Leisure and in the May 2005 issue of Men’s Journal, he was also featured in a 2004 cover story in Esquire Magazine.

At 19,340 feet, Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on earth that is not part of a mountain range. Its snow-capped peak hovers majestically over the African plain. It is the most famous mountain that a novice climber can scale.
